Bill Dance

One of the World’s most famous fishermen, Bill is the friendliest TV personality hosting Bill Dance Outdoors and Bill Dance Saltwater, on NBC Sports. He earned 23 National Bass Titles during his competitive career. Bill lives in Collierville, Tennessee and thoroughly enjoys fishing.

“I never would have dreamed in a million years there’d come a day when I could have such amazing technology that’s so easy to use. Hey, if I can use it! And that’s every Garmin product. You just turn it on and go. You can mark a spot right in the middle of the lake and go right back to it every time. You get the clearest scanning sonar and the best maps. That makes quite a combo.”

Jason Christie

I switched to Garmin to become even better.

I’m a goal-oriented competitor. I really like being ranked among the top pro fishermen. So why would I, after having so much success, switch to Garmin electronics? Because I want to stay at the top. And I believe Garmin gives me the best competitive advantage. Just like me, Garmin shows a willingness and drive to get even better.

There really are no weak points to the new Garmin combos. I was in awe of the units when I first saw them. They are that impressive with great mapping and amazingly clear sonar images. They give you the versatility you have to have to be successful. Different lakes require different combinations of features. You have to know how to catch fish everywhere on the lake, everyway. Whether I’m power fishing shallow water or fishing deep offshore, say in the middle of Kentucky Lake, Garmin gives me the combination of features I need most. Fishing shallow, I focus on the maps and traditional HD-ID sonar. I use SideVü scanning sonar to help me confirm my finds. Fishing deep, it’s maps, traditional HD-ID sonar and DownVü scanning sonar. I always use one sonar to help me confirm what I’m seeing on the other.

I like to believe every sponsor I have offers me the best competitive advantage out there. And that’s why I had to switch to Garmin. To make sure I maintained the competitive advantage.

Greg Hackney

“I switched to Garmin to get a competitive advantage.“

When Greg was eleven, he attended the 1984 Bassmaster Classic. He thought it was the greatest event ever. It inspired him to work to become a professional fisherman. The Classic remains the only title to have eluded the 2014 Angler of the Year.

“Today, the competition is better than ever. I’m constantly looking for something that gives me an advantage over my competition. One day I’m out on a muddy lake in a guy’s boat that has some new Garmin combos on it. First thing I notice is how clear and crisp the sonar images are. I’m used to getting some noise, trash, feedback, on my screen in a lake that dirty. But the clarity of the Garmin sonar images was unbelievable. I could actually see a difference. That’s why I switched to Garmin. It gives me an advantage.”

Scott Martin

Successful 15 year pro tournament fisherman, Forrest Wood Cup Champion, and host of the “Scott Martin Challenge” on NBC Sports. Scott lives on Lake Okeechobee in Clewiston, Florida.

“I’ve used Garmin products my whole career. They’ve always had the best maps but now they have their own survey boats out mapping lakes to create incredibly high detail LakeVü HD Ultra maps. They show structure, drop-offs, humps and holes. So you don’t waste any time on the lake. The 10 Hz GPS puts you right on top of your marked spot and the scanning sonar shows you exactly what’s there. You catch fish."

Brent Chapman

Current BASS Elite Series Angler and 2012 Bassmaster Elite Series Angler of the Year. He's appeared in 12 Bassmaster Classics, including two top five finishes. Brent lives on Lake Quivira in Kansas, near Kansas City.

“Garmin always had great mapping, but when I saw Garmin DownVü and SideVü scanning sonar, that’s what sold me. Once you turn them on and the screen pops up…wow… it’s so clear, you can really see a difference. They have the clearest scanning sonar images on the water. Now my boat is full Garmin, with a GPSMAP 1040 on my dash, a GPSMAP 840 next to it and another GPSMAP 840 up at my bow.”

Fred Roumbanis

“I switched to Garmin because they are the future.”

Fred “Boom Boom” Roumbanis grew up competing on deep-water lakes in California. After moving to Oklahoma, he adapted quickly to fishing shallow water. With winnings over $1 million, he is obviously at home on any type of water. His home lake is Grand Lake of the Cherokees, Oklahoma.

“We were at a tournament at Kentucky Lake where Scott Martin had done really well. While Scott was building a squirrel trap for my son, Jackson, I got to see Scott’s Garmin electronics. They were really sweet. I started paying more attention to Garmin after that. You can’t compete without great electronics. I switched because I feel the future is definitely with Garmin. With DownVü and SideVü scanning sonar, I can go 7.5 to 10 mph when I scout a lake and still get clear images. I fish fast too, using everything; map, sonar, scanning. It let’s me fish a step ahead, like chess.”

Dion Hibdon

One of the very few anglers to have won both a Forrest Wood Cup and a Bassmaster Classic. He knows how to catch fish. He started fishing tournaments when he was 12 and turned pro at 18. Dion lives in Sunrise Beach, Missouri, on Lake of the Ozarks.

“Garmin combos make you a more efficient fisherman. Used to be, we’d zigzag back and forth across the lake trying to find a spot where we’d had some luck before. Now, in addition to having the best maps, my GPSMAP combos also have 10 Hz GPS. It puts me right on top of my marked spots. I mean, as you move, the boat on the screen moves, there’s no delay. It really makes it easy to go from one spot to another."

Payden Hibdon

Imagine growing up with Dion Hibdon as your father and Guido as your grandfather. Payden couldn’t help becoming a fisherman. In 2006 he won the Junior Bassmaster World Championship. Still early in his professional fishing career, but with his pedigree, you can expect some more trophies for the Hibdon family.

My Dad and Grandfather taught me all I know about fishing. Except the electronic part. I’m more comfortable with that. Maybe ‘cause I’m younger. Garmin products are simple to understand, intuitive, self-explanatory. It’s easy to tweak and fine tune their settings. When they see my set up they say, “Hey, do that to my boat.” The new MaxDef maps are really precise and accurate. I sometimes scout lakes sitting in my boat, on the trailer, the night before tournaments. You can find similar spots on these maps quicker. Cuts your time in half. You can find multiple spots in seconds. And Auto Guidance sure came in handy in the fog on Lake Okeechobee.

Guido Hibdon

Guido is a B.A.S.S. fishing legend. He won the first B.A.S.S. event he entered, claimed a total 5 wins, finished in the top 10 for Angler of the Year seven times, six times in the top 5, and won the AOY title back-to-back in 1990 and 1991. Widely regarded as the best in the business during his tournament career, Guido was inducted into the Bass Fishing Hall of Fame in 2002.

“Electronics has changed the way we fish. But the biggest thing going in our industry now is Garmin. They are leading the changes involved in fishing. It’s not rods and reels, boats and motors; it’s electronics. Fishing will never be like it was. I can’t tell people exactly why Garmin is better. I don’t understand it that well. But guys that see it on my boat, they sell themselves. Even with those little echo units, you can watch fish come right to your bait. For an old dog, it’s easy enough for me to use.”

Stetson Blaylock

“I switched because Garmin is raising the bar.”

At 12, Stetson won a tournament with his uncle. The next weekend, they won again. Ever since then, his goal was to become a pro. He worked his way from the back of the boat to the front. In 2009, at 21, he became the youngest to ever win an FLW tour event.

“Electronics are one of the most important things on my boat. I play around with electronics more than tackle now. Tweaking settings. I want it to do everything its capable of doing. Garmin is setting the standard. They’re raising the bar. Their 2D sonar and scanning sonar are unbelievably clear. The clearest out there. And their MaxDef lake maps are the most detailed. When my unit shows a bass on a tree, I want it in my boat. If there are two fish, I pick out the biggest. You can see fish hanging off a ledge. You can see fish close to the bottom. You can see fish in grass. I scout with DownVü and SideVü and fish with HD-ID. I like seeing my bait and line.”

Casey Scanlon

Casey caught his first bass at the age of 10 and was hooked. He started fishing competitively at the age of 15. In 2011, he earned an invitation to fish the Bassmaster Elite Series. Now all the hard work, blown lower units, worn out trucks, and fish that got away, is paying off with the thrill of tournament success.

“I try to stay on top of electronics. And right now, Garmin is leading with the latest and greatest products. They’re really easy to use which is good, I’m not the best computer guy. Their DownVü, SideVü and CHIRP sonar are exceptional and will give me some big advantages. I’m a big SideVü guy. It gives me a better picture of what I’m looking for, helps me on new lakes. You can see the slope of the bank. Things you never saw before with traditional sonar.”

At 12 years old, Clent decided fishing would be a great career. He fished the Rayovac circuit, spent one season as a co-angler, and then won Rookie of the Year on the Walmart FLW Tour in 2012. Clent lives in Montevallo, Alabama.

“I’ve always admired Garmin. When I saw their new graphs and sonar, I was really impressed. I mean, the screen images on my Garmin combos are so clear, the mapping is great. I upgraded to LakeVü HD Ultra with 70 MaxDef lakes that Garmin surveyed with their own fleet of boats. It shows you just about everything. It’s a big advantage having the clearest scanning sonar on the water and great maps.”

Jason Lambert

Jason started fishing professionally in 2012 and joined the Walmart FLW Tour in 2014, finishing as Rookie of the Year. He has earned two wins and eight top 10 finishes in his young career. Jason lives in Pickwick Dam, Tennessee.

“I had an opportunity to test the new Garmin products. I was very impressed by their screen images. Even in dirty water. Electronics are so important. If you don’t master it, you’re being left behind. I rely on the maps and 2D sonar 80% of the time and use DownVü and SideVü for confirmation. Only Garmin lets you adjust scroll speed, which is really nice. And they’re dependable with a defect rate of less than 1.5%. Yep, I did my research.”

Jeff Reynolds

“I’m not big on computers. I don’t want to fight with electronics. I’m a fisherman. I just want stuff to work. Garmin combos are really easy to use. You get great maps and amazingly clear scanning sonar, like a picture of what’s below your boat. With the new Garmin combos on my boat, I can see stump beds, rock piles, heck I can see a fish under a limb. All that power and technology and they’re still easy to use.”

"Canada has thousands of beautiful waters to fish. But only Garmin offers detailed lake map coverage for over 6,000 bodies of water across Canada on a single card. And of those waters, over 1,000 are HD lakes with 1’ contours at all depths, shoreline to shoreline. The closest competitor offers only 24 lakes. So obviously, Garmin has been paying attention to the needs of Canadian fishermen. Like me.”

"These new combos bring a world of difference to your boat. With Garmin DownVü, you can see the difference in fish species. You can actually count them. What you once might have thought was a ball of shad, you can now see it’s a school of gamefish. And with SideVü, you can see to cast way out to the side of your boat. You see so much more area than you could before with regular sonar."
